Cyber Attack on a night out!
It has been reported in the media that there has been an increase in “Shoulder Surfing” cyber attacks. This is “using direct observation techniques”, such as looking over someone’s shoulder or watching their computer screen while they input information.
Shoulder Surfing can occur while working on your laptop, tablet and mobile phone. Many of us will think of Cyber Attacks only happening in the work place, but they can also occur in social settings.
This kind of attack happens, where Shoulder Surfing occurs to get the pattern and or pin code for your mobile phone and then later the phone is stolen. The thief/ hacker may then attempt to exploit online shopping apps and payment tools to steal money.
Shoulder Surfing Safety Tips
Always protect your passcodes
Use a code of 6 characters
Avoid using the “pattern” lock on a phone
Never use the passcode that unlocks your mobile device as your payment app code.
If an app allows for additional security for the app to be used (like your online banking app), we suggest using it.
On your laptop, use a privacy screen (this makes the screen visible, only when looking directly at it)
